I was immediately hooked by the story of the seemingly perfect marriage between Susannah, a beautiful red-haired artist and her charismatic artist husband, who calls himself Max W. Told from the perspectives of Susannah and Max, Thomas Green builds suspense that kept me in the dark until the unexpected finale. The characters are complicated, often likable and sometimes not. I occasionally found myself forgiving the lies, despite their horrific nature, because I envied their life in the beautiful Victorian house overlooking Lake Champlain. To me, that part of New England, with which I am familiar, is God’s country.

This is a taut, well-crafted tale of mystery and deceit. I loved the book!

I really liked the book. Very fascinating plot.
This book was full of surprises. A thriller to the end. Interesting turn of events the reader will enjoy immensely.
Be careful who you fall in love with...do you really know who they are? The Perfect Liar is a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end! Fabulous Read.
Wonderful book I couldn't put down, never heard of the author. Now I want more books by this author to read.
I read a review of this is our local paper. I was hooked from the beginning. Very clever and believable plot. I enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed a mystery for some time, and I love mysteries.
This 3.5 Star chilling creep-fest of a psychological thriller kept me company while I was stuck at home with the flu. It was a good book to help me pass several dreary January days.

<b>SUMMARY</b>
Suzanne and Max seem to be a lovely couple. They make an adorable family when you add Freddy, Suzanne's 15 year old son from her previous marriage. The three of them have just moved from NYC to a quiet Vermont town as Max's career has taken off.

Max is an in-demand, innovative artist. He's the new "<i>it guy</i>," the darling of the NYC art scene and he is completely enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. He has just accepted a two year position teaching at a university in a quaint Vermont college town.

As the three of them settle into their new life, the peace is shattered when Suzanne returns one day from her morning run to find a note attached to the door with an ominous message, "<i>I know who you are.</i>

Of course this freaks Suzanne out. When she shows the note to Max, he tries to reassure her that it's nothing, there is no need to worry. It has to be some sort of mistake, or kids pulling a prank. After all, what do they have to hide? But, since this is a thriller, of course Max is secretly in full panic mode. It turns out that Max has quite a bit to hide.

Max and Suzanne both begin a quest to try and figure out what is going on and to find out if there is a real threat. In the meantime, the reader learns a lot about the two of them and their backgrounds. I'm not giving away any big secrets when I say, they both seemed a little <i>unhinged.</i>

<b>WHAT I LOVED</b>
I loved the settings; NYC always makes a vibrant setting for a book and a Vermont small town is a perfect contrast. I'm dying to vacation at Lake Champlain now.

The peek into the art world was interesting. I didn't fully get what Max's art was all about but I don't think I was necessarily supposed to.

I found the characters of Max's colleague, David, and his wife Joanie, very pretentiously amusing. Super smug academicians who think they are completely above pedestrian pursuits such as having children or eating meat. Not that they are just not interested in doing these things themselves, but they clearly look down on those who do.

The premise was full of potential. I love the idea of the plot, the characters always looking over their shoulders to see who is "<i>on to</i>" them. The suspense was a nice slow burn. I have to admit, I would have <b>never</b> suspected the person who turned out to be the antagonist. I literally suspected everyone else.

<b>WHAT I DIDN'T LOVE</b>
I didn't actually like any of the characters. During the first few chapters, the reader learns enough about Max to figure out that he's not a very likeable character. Certainly not one with whom I can sympathize. Suzanne also drive me nuts. Her character had very few personality traits I found relatable. Particularly, after I reached the chapters written from Freddy's POV. I disliked them both enough to kind of hope the antagonist had a great time messing with them.

Aside from my dislike of the characters, there was very little about the book I can actually pick out and say I didn't like. I can only say it just didn't truly resonate with me. I found myself getting annoyed with the characters often.
