I gotta admit I'm pretty dang speechless and emotional after this read. To do this review justice I gotta give a little details and not just say I loved it.I think as women we go to through quite a few changes from age 18 to 30. We go from who we think we want to be, to who we think we are, to really searching for ourselves before we find who we are truly meant to be. I myself have made a lot of mistakes in my life for a man I thought I loved and chose to go down a path that lead me to being a person I wasn't meant to be at all. Our girl Logan goes through all this within a 6 month period.
Love and Lust. Insecurities and Acceptance. All every different things that get easily confused in young peoples minds when they are trying to find their place in the world. Shey's way of writing a story about a girl who gets wrapped up in the taboo world was exciting and heart breaking all at once. These days we as readers cant click on amazon without seeing books about BDSM or Voyeurism where a girl meets a guy and either she realizes she loves the world and jumps head first into it or the girls refuses and the guy changes his bad boy ways. So for Shey to step outside her normal writing comfort bubble to give you a tale of a woman goes down a path that isnt all hearts and flowers and happily ever after was unique and oddly beautiful. Now I'm a firm believer in the "to each their own" motto but the truth of it is if you do decide to venture down that path with your partner its not all fun and games like books make it out to be so I love that Shey decided to give us that other side and do it in a way that left you emotionally hung over.
In short is this book for everyone....No. It can be a rough read but for me at least it was totally worth it.
PS I totally agree with another reviewer I would love to see a redemption book about Josh maybe where he somehow takes Sutton down....and hopefully that hooker Addison trips in front of a semi truck. Seriously us women have enough bs in the world to deal with we should at least be able to trust the sisterhood

I loved this book and I love this author. This was very different than anything I have read from Shey but I love when people think out the book and aren't afraid to take a risk. Very well written and I hope you see some spin offs, i.e., maybe a book about the early years of Josh and what he does after Logan or Jeb's story! Shey is so talented, I will always follow her and always read WHATEVER she writes!!! You ROCK Chika!
WOW! I read "Awakened" in about 2 hours. Not because it's short or an easy read, I just couldn't put it down! I was so excited to get to the next twist, to go one step deeper into this world, I was completely enthralled. First of all, I was SO excited this story takes place in my hometown. Shey does such a great job of describing this gorgeous town and it made it so easy to really feel like you were sitting right next to the characters in all the different settings. The characters are fabulous and were written in such a way, I died a little inside when the book was over because I felt like they were so real. The emotion was so raw and palpable, I had tears in my eyes and some points, a silly grin across my face in others, and goosebumps throughout the whole thing. And can you say sexy? WHOA! It was absolutely DRIPPING with sexiness, but not at all in a trashy way. Very tastefully done and perfectly written. This is definitely a book I'll read over again, most likely more than once. Don't pass this one up! It's a fabulous read and you will NOT be disappointed!
This book bothered me because of how much I ended up liking the story despite the taboo behaviors of our protagonists, Logan, Josh, and Brevin. Their story was complicated and initially very physical between Logan and Josh. You will have to keep an open mind as you read about their sexual escapades. In the beginning, I liked how Logan and Josh interacted, but was disturbed by their open relationship. About a third of the book in, we are introduced to Brevin, an employee of Luke's contractor business, who has a strong attraction to Logan and vice versa. I enjoyed their sexy banter and underlying attraction to one another. Was there a love triangle, even with the open relationship of Logan and Josh? Was Logan cheating as her feeling for Brevin developed? It will be up to you to decide. I can tell you that I didn't like the actions of Josh in the end and felt Logan should have forcefully run away and call 911. Despite that, I would recommend reading this book for the drastically different story. The book was told from Logan's POV only and all the characters were developed.
All I can say is wow, Awakened is very different from what I normally like to read but I love Shey's other books so I figured I would give it a shot and I really enjoyed it. You can really feel the pain and heartache of these characters. I enjoyed following each of these characters through their own self discovery. At times some of the scenes were hard to swallow but they need to be there in order to see how far each character evolves through out the book. They each have their own demons they are fighting that cause them to do some of the things they do(I don't want to give any spoilers away). I loved the ending and would love more of Brevin and Logan's story. I really felt bad for Jeb, he was a sweet guy that just got into a bad situation and felt he needed to act a certain way in order to keep his friendship with Josh. I knew starting to read about their story that Logan and Josh were never going to make it no matter what anyone says you can't have an open relationship without having thought so jealousy and I watched in horror as their relationship imploded on itself but was pleased that she stood up for herself and took back her own life and got her happy ever after.
